A Message from the Tax Commissioner
Dear Franklin County Taxpayer:
It has been a privilege serving as the Franklin County Tax Commissioner since January 1, 2001.
During this period, the Tax Commissioner's Office has undergone significant improvements to
provide better service to you, our customers.
As the tax laws in Georgia frequently change, the Tax Commissioner's office will continue to
adapt our processes to provide the most efficient tax collection system possible for the citizens
of Franklin County. Since 2001, we have increased the collection rate for property taxes in
Franklin County to 99 percent. It is important that the collection rate remains high. This
revenue is used by governing authorities to provide services that improve the quality of life
for our residents. A high collection rate enables the governing authorities to keep millage rates down,
hence keeping your taxes lower.
This site was prepared to help you understand your rights and responsibilities as a property owner
in Franklin County. I hope it will be of value to you. I have attempted to answer
frequently asked questions
and provide
general information on property taxation,
as well as
general information on tax liens and tax sales.
Please remember that I cannot cover the
many and complex property tax laws on this site. The information contained here should not be
relied on as a legal source of information. Throughout the site you will see O.C.G.A. followed
by a number. These references are citing from the Official Code of Georgia unannotated, which
is available on-line at the
Georgia General Assembly's web site.
Whether you are a new resident or have been in our county for some time, my goal is to fulfill my
responsibility as your tax commissioner in a fair and equitable manner.
My staff and I are here to answer your questions and provide the best public service possible.
Please feel free to call on us.
Sincerely,
Bobby Martin
